Winterization

Sunbirder What exactly does a good marine do with the engine they remove from your boat for the winter before they rap the boat,do they tune up the engines/ my future marina wants 1300.00 for the winterization, any advice, thanks 2001-08-31
fishthebay First of all where do you live? Secondly, why in the heck would they take your motor off your boat? Thirdly $1300.00 is a lot of $ for about a $25.00-$50.00 winterization project. Thats all it should cost you on your own.

Again, where do you live? I would be curious as to get a bit more information on the taking off your motor on the shrink wrap of your boat.

Sunbirder Thanks Fish,I live in NY,the marina removes the outboard part of the I/B O/B. 2001-09-01
quang Ugh, basicly.. that's wayyyyyy too mUCh!!!

heres how it basicly works.. and the cheapest way..

if your seats are removable, take em out and put em in ur basement or something.. it helps keep the vinyl or leather fresh! remove anything that u think the cold weather might hurt.. then.. if u take it in for service/winterization, they'll put certain fluids into your fuel tank and engine so that next season you can start it up in 1 try...

then they will also SHRINK WRAP your boat to keep the snow, water, salt out..

before you get it shrink wraped, clean your boat, vaccum the carpet etc..

it shouldnt cost you more than 300, in fact, 300 would be the most expensive..

sunbirder Thanks Quang. Is it to much if he keeps the boat the whole winter dry docked?? 2001-09-02
quang Dry docked like a boatel kinda thing? I'm not sure, usually only people with large boats go for that option. I only own a 18 foot boat so I usualy just get it shrink wraped and parked in my drive way...

if you are in desperate need for space, then maybe the dry docked option is for you

Sunbirder Thanks Quang,I just don't have any space right now..... 2001-09-03
