Repairing Transom of Quicksilver Inflatable, Pls Help

tealboy1 The transom on a 10 foot Quicksilver inflatable tender has come loose and is leaking water and unable to support outboard. Is this repairable? Can I do it easily or does it need professional repair.

Pls offer any and all suggestions on how to fix this problem.

thanks

djohns19 Tealboy1,

I assume your transom is plywood? That is easy to duplicate.

1. Buy a sheet or two of 1/2" plywood and use the old trans. as a pattern.

2. Cut out the the new pieces to match the pattern of the old one. It may take 2-3 plys.

3. Glue the new cut out sheets together with water prrof glue and seal with West System epoxy. Also, use stainless steel screws to hold the new "glued up" pieces together.

4. Put in the new trans. and seal with 3M 5052 sealant.

All the products mentioned, except the plywood, are available at: www. westmarine.com

tealboy1 Thank you for the advice. It sounds like you are recommending three pieces of 1/2 inch plywood, all epoxied together to make a 1 1/2 inch transome. I guess I could also use two pieces of 3/4 inch.

The tricky part to me is, how do I attach the transome to the boat in a way I can feel comfortable with it being strong enough to handle a 15hp as rated? I am concerned I can't get it strong enough to support the torque.
